Countdown

Korea – Action . Drama – 2011
Directed by Huh Jung-Ho
♠ ♠ ♠ -  I had a chance to watch this movie at the Toronto International Film Festival during its World Premier screening on Sept 13th.  Although this is Huh Jung-Ho’s directorial debut film, you can tell that he had worked very hard and looked at every aspect of the movie in detail before the actual filming began.  Due to the interesting storyline, he was able to cast two very famous Korean actors, Jung Jae-Young and the beautiful Jeon Do-Yeon, who carried out their characters quite well throughout the movie.  If you like Korean action/thriller movies, I think you will be pleased with this film.  It’s not an “Oscar Winner” but it certainly was enjoyable and was able to keep me interested throughout the movie with its little twists and  some comical moments… [ imdb ]

Oldboy

Korean Thriller-Mystery . 2003
Directed by Chan Woo Park
♠ ♠ ♠ ♠ ♠ – By far one of the best Thrillers I’ve ever seen… In terms of the storyline, acting and the ultimate twist. The story essentially really begins when a man is kidnapped and trapped in a small model room, with no explanation of why he is there or who put him there for how long.  Suddenly he gets released and of course he dedicates all his time to figure out all the questions… why and who?  Watch the original before Hollywood ruins another masterpiece… [ imdb ]
